Mouse pointer jumping around

The mouse pointer will, from time to time, jump to the edge of the
screen (usually the bottom left or right corner). We have tried 2
different Logitech meese and one Microsoft mouse:)

XP home - OEM, various brands of optical corded mice using a USB port.

Is this a common/known problem? Or should we just get hold of a ps2
adaptor and use that port instead?

TIA:)

We had as lot of problems with this at work but that was
not related to the Windows O/S but the laptops we had in
use. We called it the mad mouse problem and got all
motherboards replaced to resolve this. We only had
problems with laptops but never with Workstations.
ciao Frank

Thanks Frank. I thought it might be a hardware thing. I guess we'll just
ps2 it :)

I had a similar problem with laptop and logitech optical mouse. After I
downloaded the latest logitech drivers (I didn't actually get any supplied,
as I got end of stock from PC world) the problem dissappeared....never to
return (did this about 3 months ago and no probs since.)

I've seen settings in Control Panel> Mouse (or Touchpad) that refer to what
the pointer should do if it's idle. One of the choices was to move the
cursor to a selected margin of the desktop. Another was "do nothing." Not
included with all software/driver combos but a bit of exploring in those
areas mentioned above may uncover it.
