Mouse knob thinks left is right and right is left!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop with WinXP. I have a
little knob in the middle of the keyboard (I'm not sure
what the technical name is) that functions as a mouse. I
also have a touchpad below the keyboard.

In the last hour or so, my knob started to malfunction,
for no discernible reason. When I press left, the mouse
cursor goes right, and vice-versa! It still does up and
down correctly, though. I tried rebooting, but that
didn't fix the problem.

The touchpad directions are still working fine. Also,
when I connect a real mouse to my laptop via the mouse
port, the directions work fine.

I would love your advice.
Thanks.

Try the Dell computer support. This might be a known issue with your
Inspiron. Otherwise, your screen is flipped horizontally! You haven't
made any video adapter changes to vsynch, hsynch?
