Mouse Issues (Drag n' Drop)

For about a week, my mouse has been acting rather odd. At first it would do the opposite of what it was suppose to. I'd click on something in a window and it would immediately classify it as a "background window", not something I was actively using. That's since ended, but my Drag n' Drop feature still doesn't work and certain programs, no main ones, won't allow me to click within them.

I've run my current anti-virus, as well as housecall and truprevent and there was nothing noteworthy on the scans. Anything I can do to restore my mouse? It's a plug and play so if all else fails I'm thinking about just deleting the driver and restarting the comp so it reinstalls everything to do with the mouse.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance ~ Shadix

Update: An updated scan of issues found that I had the rootkit "Agony.A" which I've eliminated all traces from my registry and system folders...however the mouse is still malfunctioning. Any ideas? The driver trick failed me, too.

I'd be interested in seeing a HijackThis log.

I'm pretty sure there's some random crap in there, but that's about it. Idk why McAfee is there, I unloaded that ages ago. Panda's not doing me much better, apparently.

I should have asked ... what is the name of the mouse. ;)

You do have a couple of anomalies / nasties in you Log, I suggest you fix the following ...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
Related to viewpoint which is usually considered *foistware, usually installed with AOL

C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
Not dangerous, but unnecessary. Apple iTunes

C:\Program Files\AIM6\aolsoftware.exe
Not dangerous, but unnecessary, Comes with ICQ 6, AOL again

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
Fuzzy Algorithmcheck, Nasty

c:\program files\aim6\anotify.exe
Your call ... not for my PC

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67982BB7-0F95-44C5-92DC-E3AF3DC19D6D} - C:\Program Files\Image ActiveX Object\isaddon.dll (file missing)
Must be fixed!
Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that should be fixed. isaddon.dll ... Troj/Zlob-QK ... this is part of your Trojan

O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\3.8.0\ViewBarBHO.dll (file missing)
Must be fixed!
Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that can be fixed.

O3 - Toolbar: Protection Bar - {0D045BAA-4BD3-4C94-BE8B-21536BD6BD9F} - C:\Program Files\Image ActiveX Object\iesplugin.dll (file missing)
Must be fixed!
Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that MUST be fixed. iesplugin.dll - ProtectionBar, rogue "security software", related to the notorious PS_Guard/SpywareQuake/WinAntivirus, http://sunbeltblog.blogspot.com/2006/03/ seen-in-wild-spyware-quake_25.html foistware and detected as a variant of the FakeAle aka Z

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
Unnecessary (deactivated) entry that can be fixed.

O3 - Toolbar: Viewpoint Toolbar - {F8AD5AA5-D966-4667-9DAF-2561D68B2012} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Viewpoint\Toolbar Runtime\3.8.0\IEViewBar.dll
Must be fixed!

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
Not dangerous, but unnecessary

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uniblue Registry Booster] C:\Program Files\Uniblue\Registry Booster\RegistryBooster.exe /S
Stupid FUD, I recommend uninstalling ... do not fix using HJT, uninstall

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Aim6] "C:\Program Files\AIM6\aim6.exe" /d locale=en-US ee://aol/imApp
I sit on the fence ... but I would uninstall, not for me ... your call ;)

O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [isamonitor.exe] C:\Program Files\Image ActiveX Object\isamonitor.exe
In the most cases this is the result of trojans

O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [none] C:\Program Files\Image ActiveX Object\pmsngr.exe
Fuzzy Algorithmcheck, Nasty!!

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
Not dangerous, but unnecessary. Speeds up the time it takes to load the Adobe Reader application. Your choice

O16 - DPF: {02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...ex/qtplugin.cab
Should be fixed. This entry is possibly nasty

O21 - SSODL: carbinyl - {8d8c2387-7f80-4022-9be6-43630a969558} - (no file)
??? dunno, so I would fix it anyway

O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: carbinyl - {8d8c2387-7f80-4022-9be6-43630a969558} - (no file)
As above

O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
Hmmm, this is in the right place, but, looking at its other entries I would uninstall it.

usual disclaimer
I cannot be held responsible for any mess caused by fixing the above problems ;)

I see nothing known that would cause the mouse to misbehave.

* Foistware is a term used to describe software downloaded to a computer without the owner's knowledge, which puts hidden components on a system, and attempts to bait the unsuspecting into purchasing another software remedy.

I would recommend installing SpywareBlaster & SuperAntiSpyware, update & run it ... Let me know what mouse you have and can you post another log when done.

oh, and I would suggest you get a decent Firewall.

I dare say for a moment that made it worse. I couldn't even click the start menu. After unplugging and replugging the mouse, we're back to where we started. Some functionality but can't drag/drop and work with certain programs. Here's a new and improved HJT log...Sorry for the trouble :(

Is this mouse on USB or are you using an adaptor?

I also noticed, don't know why I missed it last time, but you have not got the latest updates from Windows Update Site ... pop on over there and use the Custom button and see what they have for you ... they should all be safe to download & install, repeat until you have all updates ... if you are unsure of any, please ask.

oh, your log is clean of any noticeable nasties. :thumb:
