Mouse freezing up after not being touched for a while

My computer is going very slow lately - booting up and general
performance. I've checked for virus using Avast but nothing found.
Today, my wireless mouse froze on me and I couldn't do anything except
press the reboot button. Even Cntl/Alt/Del didn't bring up the window
for checking processes. I've changed the battery in the mouse but still
no change. It appears to freeze when I have left the computer idle for
20 mins or so. Any ideas anybody please??

In the Device Manager, set the USB devices so they can't be turned off
to save power.

Usually a better idea, believe it or not, is mark the usb mouse so that
it is not able to break suspend (S1 or S3). If you try this, then to
wake your computer you will need to use the keyboard or hit the power
button (assuming a standard setting).
