Mouse "freezes" sometimes

I have been having my mouse intermittantly "freeze" or
not respond. This happens regularly, at intervals of
about 30 seconds to 2 minutes. I hear the "ping ping"
when I try to mouse, scroll, or click. After the second
ping it responds again. This period of unresonsivnes last
about 5 - 10 secounds. It's becoming very annoying! It
seems the computer is busy doing something else when I'm
asking it to respond. I have closed all programs on the
taskbar. And I am working with just one program at a
time. This happens with any application. Even when no
applications are running. Just watching the desktop,
sometimes, I even observe the hourglass. I have disabled
everything I can think of. I have run anti-virus scans,
and searched for spyware.
Any help would b appreciated, thanks.

This may well be a result of the mouse driver and the video driver
arguing over which controls the pointer. It is easy to check on -
Control Panel - Display - Settings, Click Advanced, and on the
Troubleshoot page reduce the acceleration slider one notch or two. If
one does it, there is negligible loss of performance: if two are needed
look for updated video drivers from the maker's site.
