Mouse disappears in Windows Media Center

When I start the Windows Media Center, the mouse disappears. If I am lucky,
I can motion it to an icon and click on it. It's a long and painful waste of
time, so usually end up ctrl/alt/del and ending the program. This problem
only began after several months of having Windows Vista Home Premium (bought
new computer with Widows Vista). Not sure what caused the problem.

This is frequently caused by having mouse pointer trails enabled.

Check in Control Panel (Classic view) > Mouse > Pointer Options tab >
Visibility, to see if Display pointer trails is checked.
