Mouse cursor flashes with a disk icon every 2 seconds

I have recently installed XP home (used to run on 2000) and whilst the
installation went fine, there seems to be an intermittant problem with the
mouse cursor.

After a fresh boot everything is fine, but after a while (hour or so) of
usage the standard mouse pointer changes to the disk access busy icon and
back again every 2 seconds.

I have updated with all the available critical updates...There are only a
couple of apps installed on the machine, Antivir, newsreader, DVD burner....

I would apreciate any help you can give...Thanks.

Hi Dean,

Hard to say; however, it does have to do with a program running in the
background and is probably your anti-virus. To test, disable it. Other
than that and to know more:

Windows XP Startup Programs Tracker

And/or:

Belarc: For a detailed list of all installed software and hardware:
http://www.belarc.com/Download.html

In the Software Versions section you'll see all of your installed software.
At the end of each entry is a clickable asterisk that will take you to the
folder the software is installed in.

On a side note, see line 157: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Good luck and keep us posted!
