Mouse and USB problem

I've got a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 mouse.

When the 'base' is plugged into the USB port of my home PC it doesn't work
(no LED light on on the base). However, when I plug it into a laptop USB
port, it works just fine.

Anyone know why this is happening? The USB ports (on the home PC) seem to be
working fine for other input devices, just not for the mouse's base.

Well, maybe the other input devices have a lower power consumption
(check with the device manager). In this case, a powered USB hub
connected between the PC's USB port and the 'base' *might* help.

It might need to be re-enumerated. If you are plugging it into the
same USB port. Leave the mouse un-connected. Open Device
Manager, Click View -tic/check "Show Hidden Devices". Then
expand the Mouse category. If you see a grayed out entry for the
Intellimouse, Right Click it and from the context menu click the
Uninstall option.
USB mice also have a entry in the Human Interface Device
category. Usually, it's here you'll find a Vendor specific entry. If
it also has a grayed out entry - Uninstall it as well.
Then close DevMgr. You might want to download and use the
latest MS Intellimouse software (Ver 5.2?). I would download
and install the driver package. Afterwards, re-insert the USB plug
and see if it solves your problem.

Intellipoint driver menu found here:

I have no problems. In fact, I do not use any cordless input devices.
They are toys only and there is no need to waste money in order to
replace the batteries when using old-fashioned input devices instead.

Here is question: Are the PC's USB port connected? If the USB ports are
based on an internal cable, are they connected to the motherboard? Do you
have other USB devices that work???
