motherboard replacement - restore cd doesn't work

I have an emachine pc that had to have the motherboard relpaced. One of the
kids picked up something on the web and I tried to restore from original
CD's. The restore seemed to take ok, but, I'm pretty sure it doesn't like
the new motherboard cuz when i try to boot it flashes the XP Home banner just
long enough to tell what it is then reboots and just keeps repeating this
cycle. emachines says I need to BUY another copy of XP to load. My thought
is, I've already bought a copy of XP with the pc and the fact that their
motherboard went south shouldn't mean I have to buy another copy of XP.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Your copy of win is an OEM copy and licensed to the origonal PC & Hardware.

You changed the motherboard - hardware - therefore your OEM copy of win will
not work as it is bios locked to the origonal hardware.
It would probably have been OK if you purchased a replacement motherboard
from emachines

You need to purchase a new copy of win - NB if you purchase an OEM copy,
that too will live & die with that PC

As DL said.....the proper way would have been for emachine to replace the
mobo with same make and model.

It also sounds like you need some anti virus..anti malware programs. These
properly updated and running keep things from the net off your system.with a
little common sense added to the mix.

To add a little to what the others said:
"shouldn't mean I have to buy another copy"
And you don't as long as the replacement motherboard is the proper
board from Emachines.
Another manufacturers motherboard usually will not work.
