Motherboard question

I know this may be the wrong ng to ask my question, but it seems the
most active and likely, so pardons in advance.

My mobo (Asus P4PE - socket 478, Intel chipset 845) is messed up
(on-board sound chip and USB ports out, hd not shutting down at power
off), and I need to replace or upgrade it.

What I'm asking is for recommendations of a mobo that can use my
existing eqpt. (Intel P4 2.4 Ghz Hyper threading cpu, 512Mb of PC 3200
ram and an 4x AGP video card inside an Antec SX835 case).

So far, the only mobos I've found available nowadays that seem like
they might work with my stuff are the Intel D845pemy and maybe Tyan
S2099gnn. Are there any others out there, and what is their quality
like?

I'd like to stay away from refurbished mobos.

Tx, John

I had an 865 chipset mainboard die on me, and replaced it with the
following:

I was just looking for a cheap fix, but the new board was actually faster
and more stable. It's an entirely different chipset though, so a re-install
of Windows is strongly suggested. -Dave

The currently sold Asus 865PE would be an excellent substitute for your dead
P4PE.

Thanks Dave, BigJim, Andy and DaveW for your comments. I checked out
your suggestions and decided to go for cheap (the Biostar mobo). It is
on the way. I'll upgrade to current tech when money is plentiful :)

Thanks again, John
