More questions about saving movie problems

Ok, I have tried all the things John said, although I have a few questions
about that first..
When I change the virtual memory paging file, what setting would you
recommend? The highest possible size on both initial and max size?

When you say "close all running programs", what I understand that to mean is
click cont. + Alt + del and close them. However, what I have always been
told, when closing like this, is to only close the programs under my
username. Should I also close under the "system" and "network system"
usernames? I cannot close explorer, right? It has probably the most memory
usage.

I have tried defragging and everything else, although I only did the error
check once. My movie is about 30 min long and is all of still photos. Many
of them are scanned at 300dpi. I read that John said to change the dpi size.
Is there a way to do that w/o rescanning? (There are a lot of photos!)

And finally, he said to do it in photo story then transfer it to mm2. I can
do that, but I want to add text to the photos while they zoom, which photo
story cannot do. (The photo stands still when you add text) So I could do
that in MM, but when I try to save it, wouldn't it lock up again? Meaning,
stop saving 3-quarters of the way through. Oh, I guess I didn't mention my
problem (I did in an earlier post). When I go to watch the movie after it is
saved onto my desktop, it locks up in the middle of the movie. Should I save
it in a different way other than what the saving wizard recommends? (save to
computer) I am trying to make a dvd for my husbands 20th class reunion to be
viewed that night. Kind of a "then and now" thing. They are going to pay me
$150 for this and now I am worried that I won't even be able to produce the
product!!! I have never had this trouble before, but I have never made the
entire movie in MM. It is usually in photo story and sometimes then
transferred to MM to add opening titles and credits at the end. I am sorry
this is so long, but I am completely miffed! Thanks for any help!

Yes, try the highest possible size.

More RAM is probably the best idea...when
working with video 2GB (or more if your mobo
supports it) wouldn't be over doing it.

All I'm saying here is close all software that you
may have open. I'm just trying to free up some
resources.

Log off the net, close all software programs that
are in use, and disable your virus scanner.

IOW...if you open Task Manager / Applications
tab...the screen would be blank.

Now, open Movie Maker.

Error checking should be run more than once
if it finds anything to repair...then run Defrag.

I didn't say to change the DPI...what I said was
resize the images. IOW...if you have images
that are....2400x3600 (for example) you could
try resizing them to 1024x819 with no visual loss
of quality in the slideshow. (do this with copies...
not your originals...never edit your originals)

Ok...don't use PhotoStory.

If Movie Maker slows down...just wait until the
project is completely saved. Patience may be
the best solution.

This could be an issue with your source files...
some users have problems with JPEG, MPEG
and MP3...maybe you need to convert to a different
format.

Chuckle, "clueless Julie", you hardly sound clueless Julie!

Rendering takes time, no way around it. Have you got 1024 MB RAM, (Start
menu>right click "my computer">properties) if not does your motherboard
manual (and a visual check) indicate you can add more? My experience with
changing the paging file didn't do squat, adding a 512MB RAM stick to
increase my RAM to 1024MB resolved my "virtual memory" problems immediately
and for good. If you haven't got 1GB RAM, getting it may resolve your
problem(s)(RAM is cheap).

If you are intending to make a DVD that will play in a conventional DVD
player hooked up to a TV, you probably should be using the software program
you will be using to do that. You can't make DVD's that will play in
conventional DVD players using MM.

As far as closing all running programs, when you fire up your PC, if all
you've got running after that is your video editing software, you should be
fine. No need to ctl alt del anything.

This ones covered pretty well. I just want to make a comment about using
Photo Story 3.
Depending on how you want the text overlay to work you can still make your
slideshow in PS3 then import the WMV from there into Movie Maker to add the
text overlays. In fact, since I agree with John that the source files are
likely the problem with the movie locking up, doing it this way will
"probably" kill two birds with one stone (bird lovers I apologize) :)
