More questions about RAID 1 (P4C800)

Hello all,
Thanks for the replies to my previous posts. I am finding this RAID 1 setup
all too confusing. I have been googlin for 2 days now, trying to piece
together exactly how to setup my RAID 1.

Simple setup:
P4 3.2
2GB RAM
P4C800 Deluxe (latest BIOS)

(1) Maxtor 160 SATA drive connected to SATA1 on the mobo (contains OS and
Apps)
(1) Maxtor 160 SATA drive connected to SATA2 on the mobo (contains Data,
Music, Games, etc.)

(1) Maxtor 160 SATA drive connected to RAID_SATA1 on the mobo
(1) Maxtor 160 SATA drive connected to RAID_SATA2 on the mobo

I am trying to get SATA1 mirrored to RAID_SATA1 and SATA2 mirrored to
RAID_SATA2.

Some posts I have read say this needs to be done from the get go, some say
only for RAID 0. Some posts, when asked this exact question, simply replied
back, yes. great. very informative ;)

Anyone out there doing this ? that can provide some step-by-step
instructions ? Since I am using XP Pro, I cannot go ghetto and use the
software mirroring, so this seems to be my only choice.

Many thanks.

If you want hardware based RAID 1 mirroring, you have you disks arranged
improperly.

You'll need to configure a RAID 1 set on the INTEL SATA1/SATA2 connectors.
Then you'll need to configure another RAID1 set on the pair of Promise
RAID_SATA1/RAID_SATA2 connectors.

You appear to be trying to create a Hardware Raid 1 set (actually two of
them) across the two different controllers. This will NOT work. Perhaps
you could make that work via Software Mirroring within XP-Pro.

Hope this helps.
