More - Line Spacing Issues

I have been confused about why the line spacing at the end of a bulleted
sentence and the next bulleted line looks ok (single, or double depending if
I held the Shift down when I hit Enter) on the FP page - but, doesn't always
look that way when browsing in IE... (I have been adding or deleting lines
of spaces to make it come out right for a long time.) (This is the same at
the end of text in tables...when I nest a bunch of tables right under each
other...)

AND, when I look at that same page with Netscape the bullet is on one line
and the text is on the next... AND, there is no spacing between bulleted
sentences...

???

Thanks for your help in advance,

Palmer

Are you using Spaces to format?
If you are; don't.

As Kevin said, display issues need a url to troubleshoot.

Don't use br or spaces to adjust display. Use CSS to adjust padding or
margin on the li element.

I'm sorry, I should have thought of that... I've got a couple of cases:

http:/ofgc.bizland.com

As per advice I got on here (if I recall because I was having these spacing
problems using FP bullets) I nest a bunch of two column tables down the left
and right columns of a master 3 column table (self made bullets.) - under
"News You Can Use" right on my front page..

I'm not sure what "spaces to format" or CSS you guys are talking about.. I
just fill the right columns of my inside tables up with a sentence,
paragraph, or a number of paragraphs and end the table... Now, to add some
"white space" between the bottom line of one table and the top line of the
next one underneath - I do add a Space/Enter or just Enter (depending on how
it looks on my browser after I Publish it.)

Another is http://pyaclass59.bizland.com (yep - I'm an old geezer.. lol)
is a classic case of bullet spacing and Netscape appearance problems in a
single column table.. (I'm using tables basically so that I don't get real
wide presentations on hi res browsers... Maybe I should be doing something
all together different, there... )

Thanks, guys...

OK... I think I'm starting to get the picture... I've pointed within a cell
and selected Table Properties - and, then tried changing the Cell Spacing
and Cell Padding values - and, they both add space "around" the cell, or
between the cells... But, it's space all the way around - not just at the
bottom of the last paragraph. I like the cells being "tight" to each other
- I would just like to see more space between the bottom of one and the top
of the next...

Is there anyway I can do that?

(Cheryl, would you please define CSS? thanks)

Palmer

When you use cellspacing you are placing space between the cells in the
table. When you use cellpadding you are adding space between the content of
the cells and all four sides of the cell.

CSS stands for Cascading StyleSheets and stylesheets are used to modify the
default display behavior of the browser. To add spacing to the bottom of a
paragraph you would use something in a stylehseet like:

..bottomspace {margin-bottom: 10px;} (adjust size as needed)

Then for the paragraph you want to add space to you apply the class using:

<p class="bottomspace">text</p>

You might want to enroll in the free class "The Language of Web Design" to
learn what some of the terms you 'll be hearing (CSS, HTML, XHTML, ASP, PHP,
Dynamic Web Templates, etc.) mean by following the directions at
http://starttoweb.com/classes/language.php If there is a term you have seen
that is not listed you can request that it be added in the forum for the
class.

Thanks for getting back to me, Cheryl. Yea, I had the cell spacing/padding
funtions figured out from just playing with the Table values... Thanks.

Cascading StyleSheets... arg..?? My head started to explode when I read
that part of your explanation... The BIG convenience of using FP for me
personally is that I really haven't had to worry much about web terms and
such... just pull up a page, throw some tables in it, and start typing...
Anything more than that - I'll just leave to you pros... (However, I am
going to register and complete your course... thanks for the suggestion -
and, putting the course together..)

Thanks,

Palmer

Hope it doesn't make your head hurt more. I put it together because I got a
bit tired of writing the (or pasting) the same definitions over and over and
over again. ;-)
