Monitoring the results of GPO Software Installation

Folks:

I am a newbie to Group Policy. My goal is to deploy a sample application.

First I created a GPO then I linked this GPO to my domain. Finally I check
the SOFTWARE INSTALLATION node and notice details of the sample application.
There is information about: Name, Version, Deployment State, Auto-Install,
Upgrade Type, Upgrading, Locale, Source, and Modifications. My question
deals with being able to monitor the results of the deployment (software
installation).

Can I monitor this software installation process from my GPO server to be
able to know things like:

* Whether the sample application has been installed and on which
machines
* Etc

Thanks,
John.

John,

Sorry, you can't do this with the native Windows tools, you will need to get
a program like SMS to monitor the installs. You could also use WMI to query
the installs, but SMS does this out of the box. THis is one large hole with
GPO software installations, the lack of monitoring. But, it is the one thing
that SMS does very well, beyond GPOs.

Derek:

How specifically can I use Scriptomatic to create a WMI script to test
whether or not a particular application (deployed by GPO) has been installed
on client machines.

Thanks,
John.
