Monitor shrinks and expands sporatically

I'm hoping someone can provide some insight into this monitor problem:

I've got a KDS VS-195 19" monitor. Picture's great.
Recently, however, every so often the screen will momentarily expand
then shrink by about 1/2" on each side. It only lasts a fraction of a
second, and goes back to normal. Sometimes the monitor will be fine,
other times it will do this several times within a few minutes. Never
does it make any sound, nor discolour the screen in any way.

I'm pretty sure it is not interference, because the problem is not a
'wavy' shake, nor does it ever last more than that fraction of a
second. It is completely inconsistent. No lights in the room dim or
anything while this is happening.

I'm leaning towards a problem with the monitor's power supply. Anyone
experience anything similar?

Mine did this for a while and then wouldn't come on. Then I unplugged the
USB power cable into the monitor base (it has 4 ports) and it started and
ran fine. But progressively it has started blooming/ shrinking again.

A guy I know from a forum (who was a monitor repair specialist with Compaq)
told me the part responsible and that it was a cheap fix, but fitting it
would be dangerous if I wasn't very careful. So I left it alone and put up
with it. Now I have an LCD and the CTX is unused.
