Monitor Query

Hello

First time in this newsgroup so hope I'm not duplicating previous postings.

A friend of mine has a 2 year old computer which apparently has always had
this minor but niggling problem. Whenever he boots he gets a message on the
monitor that the monitor is doing a burn-in test & commences a 24 hour
countdown. Pressing the re-start button is the temporary fix as then the
machine boots as normal,
but is there a permanent fix? Thanks in advance for any help.

I ain't no expert but it sounds like something in the monitor rather
than the PC. Most monitors have menus for maintenance, picture format
etc. I would suggest looking there.
