Monitor Power Save

P4 3GHz on an ASUS P4S800 motherboard running Windows XP Pro SP1 with
all patches short of SP2. Video card is ATI Radeon 9200SE with latest
driver (6.14.10.6476, 8/25/04) from ATI installed.

I have set Power Options to turn off monitor after 15 minutes. It
does this during the current "on" session. After powering down the
computer and restarting, the monitor no longer turns off after the
timeout. I have to go back into Power Options and change the setting
to something else and then reset it back to 15 minutes. Monitor power
save turn off then works again until the computer is turned off.

Any ideas on how to correct this errant behavior? Tnx!

It almost sounds like your motherboard doesn't support ACPI correctly. There
are various utilities to check that (try Googling ACPI check). In any case,
there are TWO places where you can set power-saving measures- in Windows and
in the system BIOS. I recommend that you go into your BIOS and check there to
see that the monitor is set to power off.

Thanks! I thought I had set the BIOS parameters properly. I checked
again and did find I had overlooked one. I corrected it and now the
monitor does power off properly. Thanks again.

Without any changes to the BIOS, monitor power save is back into the
mode of not working, but only sometimes. After setting/re-setting
monitor timeout, it again works. But then, it may or may not work on
the next reboot. Anything else I can look for? Tnx!

I have discovered the pattern of working/not-working. After setting
time-out in Power Options, the time-out works for the current boot
session and the next boot session. After the 2nd boot, the time-out
no longer works and must be reset. Any ideas? Tnx!
