Monitor boot process with Task Manager

Can Windows Task Manager be started during boot-up? I'd like to see
what processes are running immediately after startup. Something is
locking my system up for about 20 or 30 seconds after startup or at
least it appears so.
Thanks
Don

Starting Task Manager turned out to be pretty easy. I just put a
shortcut to taskmgr.exe in my startup folder of the Start Menu. Turns
out that a process called vsmon.exe is taking quit a bit of time (36
seconds) right after boot-up.

Are you using ZoneAlarm?

The file vsmon.exe belongs to ZoneAlarm personal firewall, which monitors Internet
traffic and generates alerts by following the security rules that users configure in
Zone Alarm.

http://www.file.net/process/vsmon.exe.html

I don't think it's advisable to remove it if it is the ZA file, it may kill your
connection if you do.

Yes, vsmon.exe is a zone alarm file and I'm running Zone Alarm Pro.
I've decided to leave it alone since security is paramount. I checked
into reducing the priority and got a warning from Task Manager that
there might be adverse effects. Thanks for the help.

boot-up <<

As you probably know, this is a process related to Zone Alarm. And
they have had issues with it, off and on, for years. I've had the same
problem myself with it, but the version that's in here right now is
behaving OK and doesn't stall my start-up. But that could change with
the next update.
Yes, I'm running Zone Alarm Pro and I've come to the same conclusion
that it's best to leave things alone. I'm having some minor issues
with icons not showing up in notification area of the Start Menu, or is
it called the Task Menu? Anyway, it's the area on the right end side of
the Start Menu.

My real problem is that some times a whole bunch of icons show up in
that area and other times only Zone Alarm and Norton Antivirus show up.
Each start-up of Windows is a crap shoot as far as the icons are
concerned. Sometimes they are all there and next time only two appear.
Eliminating Webshots from the list seems to fix the problem, but I can
add it back in and things work fine for a while. I thought computers
were supposed to work the same way every time.
