modify workgroup not available

I am using Access 2003 now. I created a database with a
workgroup file attached to it in Access 2000. When I try
to use the user level security wizard in 2003, the modify
workgroup information file option is disabled, how can I
get it to be enabled like it is in 2000.

You need to join the 2000 mdw. Open 2003 and go to Tools, Security,
workgroup administrator and join the 2000 secure mdw.

It should show up then.

I have already done and Access said it was successful, but
it still does not show up. It will allow me to add and
modify users and groups manually, but not through the
wizard.

It could be because the mdw is a 2000 version, but I'm sure about that.
What is wrong with modifying it via the menu?

Also, once you joine the workgroup, open your database, logging in as an
administrator.

I have logged in with my admin login and it still does not
come up.

Using the security wizard is much better than the manual
solution, it creates an automatic PID as well as prints
out a security report at the end.

Your Access documentation says that you can go from 2000
to 2003 without creating a new mdw.

FYI, I am accessing the mdw on out server through the
command prompt. like this:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11
\MSACCESS.EXE" "c:\cts\cts.mdb" /WRKGRP "\\pnd-s001
\cts$\system.mdw"

I hope you can help.

I just tested, and it worked fine here. The 'modify current mdw' was
enabled in 2003 while joined to a 2000 mdw.

It is impossible for me to know where you've gone wrong. Perhaps you aren't
logging in as a member of the Admins group (and it shouldn't be the 'admin'
user, as the wizard would have removed all permissions for that user).

I am logging in as myself (and others) who are members of
the admins group. We have also tried this on another
database and the same thing happens on all of our
computers. Is it possible that there is a patch out there
for this problem?

I'm not aware of this as an issue (and no patch). As I said, I had no
problems.

Perhaps it is a permissions issue on the folder where the mdw is (I doubt it
though).

I think you will have to use the Tools, Security menu items to modify the
workgroup manually.

Can I send you the files so you can look at it? I could
send you a copy of the front end, back end, and mdw and
you could create a command propmt to get to them from your
computer.

When I try to send an email to (e-mail address removed), I
get an undeliverable that the host is not found. Can I
send you these on CD.

Your email address is sending back a message that the host
is not found. Can I send you a CD?

Remove the nospam from the address.
