Modify records and create a calculated field and add those records to a table

Hi,

Whats the best way to take the records from a table into a recordset,
mess about with them (remove brackets from the front of the first
field if a condition is true etc), create a new field which adds two
of the fields together, then put it into a new table and delete your
temporary table? I've had a look at a lot of code but I just don't
know the most efficient way to do it in DAO. PLEASE HELP!!
