Modem Dials But does not connect

J

John Boy

I have faithfully followed MS diagnostics for Modem
troubleshooting.

The strange thing is the properties of the modem show Com
3. In Device Manager there is no Com 3 only Com 1 and Com
2.

When queried the Modem responds correctly.

It would seem that "Com3" needs to be deleted. The modem
must be assigned to Com 2. I think. I do not know what
else to do.

Searching I see issues of Com3 assignation but nothing
exactly like my problem. Help?

COM3 is okay, and won't be listed under PORTS in Device Mgr. But the
modem should be shown under the MODEM branch there.

The basics...be sure that the phone line is plugged into the correct jack.

The modem will work fine being assigned to com 3. You just have not
configured you dial-up correctly. Look at your supplied info from your ISP.

Make sure you don't have a firewall blocking access to the internet, and
make sure you've got things configured properly for whatever ISP you're
using.
