MM2 & MySonic DVD

Deborah

I have created a movie project in MM2. I tried "saved
file as" to my hard drive as DVI-AV (NTSC) as the help on
this microsoft's website instructed and it said I don't
have enough hard drive space to use this option but I
know that I do, so I just saved as an .avi. Once save was
completed, which took hours (it's a 90 min movie) it said
the file was a .wmv. MySonic (which says is compatible
with ANY MM2 files) will let me open the file but it does
not let me burn it to a DVD disk. What did I do wrong?
I can view the file created in the program (MySonic) but
it won't let me write it to the DVD. Please help...I
have been EXTREMELY frustrated after all my hard work and
yet no DVD. It just doesn't seem that it should be this
difficult to burn a 90 min movie to a DVD. Any help is
appreciated.

When you say 'MySonic' are you referring to Sonic's MyDVD? What version?

I use version 4.5 and it's help file says I can put up to 3 hours of video
on a DVD.... but it says this too "These durations are only for video
captured in MyDVD. If you use files from other sources, such as AVI files,
MyDVD converts the files using the "Best" quality setting, which means you
can fit about 60 minutes of video onto a 4.7 GB DVD."

Yes I do mean Sonic MyDVD. I just purchased a dvd writer
and the MyDVD cd was included. I would assume it is the
most current version. So what I need to do is take that
saved file and break it up into 2 sections (2 DVD's) and
see if the shorter lenght will allow me to burn the DVD.
How would I go about breaking up this file since it was
already converted from "project" to file? Or would I
need to go back and start my project over ie. redo
editing and then save as 2 seperate files? Thanks for
such a fast response!

Import your saved movie as a single clip and use MM2 to split it where you
want.... save each part to a new file. It'll go a lot quicker even though
the parts are big.. without transitions and effects, etc.... the rendering
is relatively quick.

You must have TWICE the disc space required in order to process and burn a
DVD. Essentially, if you are burning a 4GB DVD, you must have 8GB free
space available. This does NOT include the windows pagefile (swap file). I
guess your HDD does not have enough free space.

I wouldn't assume you have the most current version. I
just bought a DVD writer and it came with version 4.5. As
PapaJohn says you can get about an hour of video (plus or
minus if depending on the # of transitions etc). Make
sure you have 2x the space on your hard drive (at least)
because MyDVD will actually create (render) the movie to a
temp space before actually burning.

Not sure what you meant by saying you couldn't save the
movie as DV-AVI but saved it as a .avi. Thought that was
the same thing. Maybe I am missing something.

Thanks for all the help! My problem was exactly what
PapaJohn said...the video was too long. I took the
original and broke them into two 45min movies. When I
went in to "save movie file" I chose the DVI-AV (NTSC)
option and it let me save it no problem! Once it was
saved I went in to burn the DVD and MyDVD burned it no
problem...works well in my DVD player only I didn't
realize the menu in MyDVD would appear on the DVD and now
my DVD menu has the title of "Click here to type text"!
Guess now I need to learn a little more about the Sonic
MyDVD program for the next DVD I burn...I'm so HAPPY that
all my hard work has finally payed off! Thanks again!
