Hi All

I have a file which I have indexed and saved using Windows Media File editor. I wanted to add the clip to a section of clips in Movie maker. When I try to import the file an error box pops up and says that the file has not been indexed and therefore can't be imported. I have indexed and saved this file so, Im at a loss as to why it says it hasn't been indexed. Can anyone help me figure out how to index this file another way or tell me another way to play this clip and have it saved in the time line with the video clips im editing

Thanks to all that respond

I just tried cropping the mid-section of a WMV file using the File Editor,
and testing it in MM2. Didn't run into any issues.

Maybe just open and close the file again in the Editor and it'll re-index
it.

Hi PapaJohn

I was trying to import a wma file not a wmv file. I have a video clip I want to add a sound clip to from a wma file. When I go to import the clip it says it's not indexed. I have cropped and indexed the original wma file for the clip I want to insert. It always says it's not indexed even though I have personally indexed it and cropped it with Windows Media File Editor. Any suggestions? Try taking and importing a wmv file then try to change the audio track out for another audio clip from a different wma file and tell me what happens

thanks

Steve

Steve,

I see your original post subject did say WMA file... I missed that.

The audio part of the video file can't be changed out with another WMA
file... you can mute the audio and put the new one on the audio/music track.
Is that what you mean?

Hi PapaJohn

Sorry it took so long to respond to your post. Yes, your correct I have muted the audio track on the wmv I have and I want to add a clip in that "Audio/Music" track section. It won't let me drag the clip into that section, it won't let me put it in a collection and if I try and import it then I get the file is not indexed.
Thanks for checking this post and for any help you can render

Steve,

The Windows Media File Editor handles both WMA and WMV files.... it
automatically re-indexes a file if you just open it and close it in that
utility.

It's part of the Windows Media Encoder package....there's a link on my Setup
Software page.

Hi Papajohn

If you look at my previous post, you will see that I used Windows Media File Editor to crop and index this file. I have used this file editor on a regular basis as I edit wma and wmv files with it weekely. That is why I don't understand the problem. That utility has a "save and index" as well as a "save as and index" function. I have tried both and the MM still doesn't recognize the file as indexed, even thought it has been indexed. Any other suggestions

Maybe convert it to another file.... I'd be glad to try it if you email a
copy.... to see if it acts any differently here.

Hi John

Yep, checked your site out and found your very helpful section. I played the clip using wmp and fed it into the naration line. Just to clear something up. Nothing in the errors I received were connected to a drm. That error never came up, only the can't index error. The drm was never turned on with these files. The solution you gave did work just swell and I thank you for all the help and pesonal time you gave helping me resolve the issue.

Again

Thanks.......Stev

btw, Windows is coming out with a version 3 drm.....
