..ppt 2007

I will try to explain my problem.

1. When I open my .pptx at the very top of the screen where
PictureTools/Drawing Tools/Sound Tools are -
the Sound Tools doesn't show ! I know it is hidden behind the
Minimise/Maximise/Close thingy because I remember where it was and if I
click in the space where it should be the Sound Tools info appears and I can
use it OK.

This is what I have tried so far: pizza button at top
left>Options>Customise>Popular Commands>Picture Tools/Format tab>, I dragged
the text over to the Quick access Tool Bar and this showed <seperator> OKed
it. Back to the screen and everything is still the same. I can cope with
this because I know where to find the Sound Tools, so does anyone know why
this should be happening. Have I accidently done something to cause this? On
my lap top the Drawing Tools/Picture Tools/ Sound Tools are in the middle of
the screen at the top. Weird!

Thanks a lot

Hi Maureen,

you have to click on a sound symbol to make the sound tab show up. It
disappears, if you click on text, pictures, etc.

Which screen resolution do you use on your desktop and laptop? Office
adjusts the Ribbon to the monitor size.

Best regards,
Ute

Screen resolutions on both Laptop and main PC are 800 x 600. It works fine
on the Laptop and it also used to work fine on the main PC for a couple of
months and it has only started to play up today. I do know that the Sound
icon has to be clicked to bring up the Sound Tools. The problem is that only
a very small portion of the sound tool bar is visible (so little that it can
hardly be seen), with almost all of it being hidden behind the main
minimize, maximize and close buttons in the top right corner.

Thank's Ute

G'day!

I've just tried my monitor on 800x600 and I could still see the sound
context ribbon button (or whatever they called it) but only just. Have you
got lots of things on your quick launch toolbar? I was wondering if that
could 'push' the sound button to one side; try putting the quick launch
toolbar below the ribbon to see if that fixes it (there's the option to do
that if you click on the little down arrow next to the quick launch toolbar).

The pizza button - I love it! Certainly more evocative than the Office
button :)

G'day Lucy
Tried what you suggested and nothing appears to work. I can manage fine not
seeing the Sound Tools but what would have happened if I had forgotten? Is
there any another way to access the Sound Tools? Just curious. Anyone out
there know the answer?

Thanks for your help

MoMo,
You might want to think about putting them on your QAT. Right click the QAT
and select customize, then you can add anything you want to it.

Hey MoMo

Why is it you have your monitor set to 800x600? Maybe it's time to treat
yourself to an upgrade ;-) Dell have a range of LCDs under 200UK (and some
very nice ones for more than that)
http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sn...&cs=ukdhs1&category_id=4058&~ck=bt&sort=price

Don't forget you can up your resolution but use larger fonts so windows are
still easy to read. In XP right click desktop -> properties -> appearance ->
font size -> apply -> wait patiently. In vista right click desktop ->
personalise -> adjust font size (in the left hand pane)

Hope that helps!

Hi Lucy

No idea. My hubbie sees to all that. He is still with the Sand Man probrably
for the next couple of hours so I will have to ask him WHY? All our
equipment etc is bob on and up to date. There must be a reason and only he
knows:)

Thank you

Hi Momo

It's really easy to change the resolution and he can always change it back
when he's using the computer. I'm pretty sure you could set it your user
profiles (if you have one each). Anyway:
1. Right click the desktop
2. Select personalise -> display settings
3. Drag the little bar where it says 'resolution' about to see what your
optons are
4. Select one -> apply
5. You get 15 seconds to say to keep it or it reverts back.
6. Have a play and see what suits you. If you have all new stuff you're not
doing your monitor justice by displaying at 800x600 I'm sure.

Why is it you have your monitor set to 800x600?

I mentioned that to my husband and he said it reminds him of the time he had
problems with a new car he had just bought and he took it back to the garage
that sold it to him. He told the man that he drives to Manchester every day
and almost every time it breaks down after about 20 miles on the motorway.
The man in the garage said, "Well why are you going to Manchester"? "Why
don't you go to Liverpool instead, it's much nearer?" ;-)

Actually, my husband likes 800 x 600 (and so do I) because it makes
everything comfortable to read. He said (over my shoulder!) he knows all
about native monitor resolutions and Windows icon sizes and spacing and font
size settings and the various Windows dots per inch settings and other
things like that, but many programs still show some things in very small
sizes regardless of those setting, except for the Windows dots per inch
setting which of course increases the size of everything if you change it
from 96 to 120 but which causes many programs to fail to work properly.

He has tried changing various settings, disabling Aero and various other
things, and it did not fix the problem, but he's just noticed that it is the
tabs at the top that are causing the problem. Microsoft's programmers seem
to have tied the position of the Picture/Drawing Tools and Sound Tools tabs
to be aligned immediately above the Format tab. This makes everything appear
okay unless you set preferences to also show the Developer tab in the ribbon
(which my husband had done) in which case it shifts the Format tab (and
therefore the Picture and Sound Tools tabs) to the right and on an 800 x 600
display it causes the Sound Tools tab to disappear under the control box
(min, max and close buttons). So, it is a bug.

My husband is a programmer himself and he reckons that a decent programmer
(which I presume Microsoft have lots of) should be able to produce a program
that works on all machines. Anyway, rant over. My husband insisted I write
this stuff ;-)

I didn't want to involve him but he TOOK OVER on this matter.

Thany you

Sorry MoMo, I came in in the middle. Let's step back some though.

I just added my Sound Options to the QAT with no problem whatsoever. The
icon for the Sound Options got added. If I have a sound selected and click
that button on the QAT, then the Sound Options show below the QAT. What are
you seeing when you add it then click it?

One thing you might want to do: Instead of adding the commands from the
Popular commands, select the Sound Tools! Options Tab from the drop down on
the left of the customize options. This way you can add exactly the sound
options tab items you want to the QAT.

Just an idea....

Hi Kathy
Sunday 8.00am.UK. Hubby still in bed;-)
Thanks for posting back. I have noticed this morning on main PC, the
Picture/SoundTools is back where it should be and is very clear to see, it
is now back next to the Minimise/Maximise/Close Button over the Options,
where it was originally,it is no longer hidden. My husband was on this main
PC until very late last night (I.S.P) problems. He must have also had a go
with my SoundTools problem and "corrected it " somehow.

We have changed our I.S.P and having speed problems. Not even as fast as a
dial up. It is a massive handicap for me. It was very frustrating when
accessing the Office on line Clip Art. Must change I.S.P again in the next
few days or I will need a wig, it's driving me bald.

Kathy, I have just gone through your instructions and everything in the QAT
appears to be the same as I originally viewed when looking for the Sound
Tools problem. The text (not icon) QAT - highlighted in blue but I didn't
go any further, as my hubby may have flipped if I messed it up;-)

Whilst everything is now back in order and the screen resolution is still
the same at 800 x 600 (I have just checked how to do this following Lucy's
info) I am leaving well alone. My husband and I (no not Royalty) use the
LapTop and main PC between us, so I don't want to start fiddling about with
stuff. I am understanding a lot more at the moment, but my head is
occupied with my PowerPoint learning curve. My hubbie is amazed at my
achievments learning this stuff on my own! (Well thanks to this group)

Thank you all for your responses.

Fair point - your machine, your programmes should allow you to set it up any
way you want. Hope I didn't cause a domestic ;-)
