Missing start, run history

Hi All,

I need you help in solving a mystery. :-[

I have a customer on XP-Pro, sp1a, that has no history
on his "Start", "Run" drop down. (Yes, I have run a lot
of stuff from it! It should have a HUGE history.)

Weirder yet, this is not the first time this has happened
to him. The previous computer I sold to him, with NT4W, sp6a
installed on it, had THE SAME THING happened to him. (His
new computer was not a migration of his old unit. It was
a fresh install on a blank hard drive.)

Both his new and his old computers worked fine when
I gave them to him. Now, it just started (last week) happening
on one of his colleagues computer as well.

What is the world is he (they) doing to cause this? And,
how do I fix it? :'(

Many thanks,
--Tony

Hi

Any 3rd party programs installed that may have disabled the Run History
option?

Quick books, CCH Tax Prep, M$ Office, Phone Slips. Nothing I
know of.

Also, the other eight computer in the office, with, as far as
I can tell, the exact, same software installed, do not
exhibit this behavior.

How do I re-enable the function?

Hi Tony,

This depends on many things, generally third party tweakers and/or policies.
That said, spyware cleaners also clean out MRU lists. As for the tweakers,
if he has clear recent documents on exit, etc...it behaves in the same way.
As well as IE history cleaners. More info needed.

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for the awesome link! In your technical opinion,
do you think something is "disabling" it or "clearing" it?

As I remember (a little fuzzy though), nothing shows up
after I run something from it. Could it be continuously clearing?

Many thanks,
