Missing Registry Key

Hi,

I've been trying to fix a missing registry key problem. Any input will be
greatly appreciated. I tried to reinstall Microsoft Office 2000 on XP home,
but Error 1919 occured during installation. (Error cofiguring ODBC data
source: MS Access Database. ODBC error 6: Component not found in the
registry.) The Windows' site says I can either install MDAC 2.8 or XP SP2 to
fix the problem. I downloaded XP SP2 a while ago. Should I download it again,
or just get MDAC then? Also, I installed McAfee a few months ago, but it
conflicted with PC-cillin that came with my laptop. So I removed McAfee and
renewed PC-cillin. However, whenever I opened Outlook, it said three dll
files associated with McAfee couldn't be loaded. I don't know if these two
issues are related. How do I fix both?

Many thanks!!!

I don't know if this will fix your problem but the latest
version of MDAC is 2.8 SP1. It can be downloaded here:

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...95-EFC2-4F8E-A9E0-3A1AFBD5922E&displaylang=en

You might also want to download and run the Component Checker:

MDAC Utility: Component Checker
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&displaylang=en

As for your second question, open Outlook and click on Tools ->
Options.
In Options, click on the Other tab.
Click on the Advanced Options button.
In Advanced Options, click on the Add-in Manager button.
In the Add-in Manager box, look for entries associated with
McAfee and uncheck them.

Good luck

Thanks a lot. The second problem is solved. I downloaded the Component Checker and did an analysis. It said, "the following product releases were matched: MDAC 2.8 SP1 WINDOWS SP2". I downloaded MDAC 2.8 SP1 again and tried to installed, but a fatal setup error popped up. "This setup does not support installing on this opeating system." Do you happen to know what went wrong? Should I download a different version then? Thank you.

Sometimes I hit the send button way too soon. I based my
response on having encountered an error message similar to the
one you got when I tried to install Office 2000 sometime ago.
After digging a little deeper into the problem I remembered
that it was a Windows 2000 PC which had an earlier version of
MDAC installed, version 2.7. My vague recollection is that I
was able to rollback from version 2.7 to 2.6. Reinstalling 2.7
fixed the problem.

That said, it appears that MDAC 2.8 does not have a similar
"rollback" feature. The only way to remove it is to uninstall
Service Pack 2. Keep in mind that if you have deleted the
$NtServicePackUninstall$ folder from C:\Windows, you won't be
able to uninstall SP2.

Also, I don't know if you could simply rerun the Service Pack
installation from the full download or the SP2 CD and solve
this issue. I'd be more inclined to try a repair installation
with an XP installation CD that did not include SP2. Once the
repair is completed, I'd finish installing Office and then
update Windows.

FYI, I came across an article that points
out that the MDAC 2.8 SP1 download cannot be run on a computer
that's running XP:

Release manifest for MDAC 2.8 Service Pack 1 (2.81.1117.6)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899456

Quoting from the article:
"MDAC 2.8 SP1 MDAC_TYP.exe file and Windows Server 2003 or
Windows XP: If you try to run the MDAC 2.8 SP1 MDAC_TYP.exe
file on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server
2003, installation fails, and you receive an error message. To
update the MDAC version that is installed together with Windows
XP or with Windows Server 2003, you must use operating system
service packs or Windows Update."

Since you ran the component checker and it indicated that you
already had this version installed, any attempt to install an
earlier version will probably generate an error message.

Sorry for the confusion.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to one of the Office newsgroups. Here are a couple
that might prove useful:

Good luck
