Missing Files?

Steve

A few days ago I decided to delete KaZaA and all of the
songs along with it (about 1GB). My hard drive has 40GB
and I had 19.5GB free at this time. I then deleted it
using Norton Cleansweap. It made a back up equivilent in
size to what it deleted. I then deleted the back up
because I had no need of it. The current amount of hard
disk space I should have would be calculated like this--
(Free Space on drive C->) 19.5 + 1.0GB (<- KaZaA/songs).
This obviously comes out to 20.5, however, after deleting
those files, my computer told me that I had 18.5GB free
space. I can't imagine why this is. I then defragmented
the system with Norton's Speed Disk. It came out normal
except for one thing. The amount of Free Space for
System Use (pink blocks if familiar with speed disk) was
10x the amount as usual. This stuck out greatly since
that space is probably what should be that missing 2.0GB
of free space. If anyone can tell me how to retrieve
that missing memory, I would greatly appreciate it. If
my guess is wrong as to where that memory went, please
tell me in that manner.

Thank you

Go to start, click run, then type "chkdsk /f C:" and see if that fixes it.
That will run the XP/2k equivelant of scandisk on your computer.

I ran it on startup.. it did free up some space, 50MB or
so but it doesn't even compare to the 2GB I seemed to
have 'lost'. Any other suggestions?

Thank You

I would run the Disk Cleanup and see if removing temp files gets it
back. You will find it under System Tools.
