missing files: Winword.exe and Program.exe

E

El Stupido

Just prior to the problem I deleted files on my backup
disc and uninstalled Norton Utilities. Afterthat I
couldn't open any documents (can't find Winword.exe) or
our family tree program (can't find Program.exe). Anybody
have any ideas on how to correct this problem?

How did you delete them? If you used the recycle bin they
may still be recoverable with a file recovery program. I
use File Scavenger 2.1. Windows XP has a built in file
restorer but im not sure how to use it...maybe try "Help"
at a command promt or DOS prompt to find the right
command... Also if your OS came on a CD-ROM you can run
windows system file checker and it will prompt you to load
your CD-ROM when missing files...you might try logging on
in safe mode as "administrator" and try accessing the
files. Did Norton Uninstall successfully? It may have left
locked files behind...I had a heck of a time
uninstalling "Freedom" utilities and Norton and other
expensive programs and getting my PC to work OK
afterwards...Try Norton's website and search for uninstall.
