Missing files - System Restore won't work. HELP!

I drastically need help! I had some missing shared dlls and I took someone’s
advice here and I installed their program "DllArchive" and ran a search. I
stupidly archived all the O hits files. I got the Windows Protect Files
message about "Files that are required for windows to run properly must be
copied to DLL Cache. Asks me to insert WinXP Home but do not have one as it
was installed on my computer when I bought it. There is no option to click
Ok to insert the disk and then browse to i386 as someone suggested for
someone else that got the same message. And it wouldn't let me cancel or
close it. I tried to do a sfc scannow but it did not complete. I tried to
do a System Restore but nothing happens when I click on it. I finally
deleted the program and the saved dllarchive and restarted. So now I have
all these missing file messages and my programs don't work and I can't
restore my System.

I know I was stupid to do this since I obviously don’t know enough to be
messing with these things but can anyone HELP, please?!!! I sent a message
on the program’s website but didn’t sound like I would get an answer anytime
soon.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

ok, if you have

no system restore or sfc capability via

normal mode or safemode then

your only option might
be to do a repair install with
your windows setup cd.

however, you might try to
locate the dll files in that dllarchive
and return them back to your
system folder via the recovery console.

why not double check the dllarchive
website and check out the faq's there;
as you may not be the only one
that this has occurred to. It's possible
that there is a bat file that will unarchive
those files...

Every OEM system sold comes with some sort of "recovery".....read the
documentation that came with your system.
Chances are it is on a "recovery" partition on the HD...some just set the
machine back to its original purchase date...(which formats and
reinstalls)....other let you do a repair installation which is what you are
looking to do

Can you not boot in safe mode for system restore. You will need to also
contact who you brought PC from for a boot disc.
I have just recovered from a similar situation, but you need your win disc
so it can search for missing files. Then, Start>Run> Type in open box> sfc
/scannow. make sure you have a space before /

I do have a system recovery option and I made recovery disks when I bought
the computer. I don't want to lose everything I have installed in the last 3
years including all the windows updates. My manual does not mention a repair
installation. I checked my event log and have numerous errors and messages
that "protected system file............not restored, file version of bad file
unknown." There are numerous files listed such as wmsdmoe.dll, wmpcore.dll,
wmm2fxa, wmm2ext.dll, etc. etc. I emailed HP and they told me to change
source path in registry but already had the one they told me to change it to.

Any more ideas, anyone? Don't know what else to try. I did try moving the
contents of the dllarchive to C:\windows\system32 but still having same
problems.

Thanks for your time.
