Missing event log entries

My application event log (xp pro) hasn't shown any new entries since 2/9/04, and the system event log stopped recording entries in April 2003. I tried clearing the logs and setting the overwrite property to "as needed", but still nothing. Is logging dependent on some service that i can configure

Have you checked to ensure that the 'Event Log' service is still running?
