missing dll's- repost

I'm reposting this item hoping to find a solution. Hutch
suggested a dll link at MS but it returned nothing for
the 2 dll files that are missing on my system. Have since
loaded my XP onto a spare hard drive to see if I could
find these 2 files, but they don't appear on a clean
install. What the hell is going on here. Is anyone
familiar with these 2 dll's?? Could they be related to
some program?

Original post below.

Recent problems with XP Pro has caused problems with
Media Player. Some Mpegs report errors as follows.

The DLL cpuinf32.dll can not be loaded. OS reports: The
specified module could not be found.

and

The DLL mplapx.dll can not be loaded. OS reports: The
specified module could not be found.

Any way to restore these dll's and what would be the
procedure? Tried Restore but no luck.

Thanks
Razza

Put your Windows XP CD in the CD drive. Cancel out of the initial popup
window. Then go to start/run. Type in SFC /scannow. Your computer will be
scanned for missing/altered files and the correct ones will be installed.
Reboot!

You will have to reinstall SP1 and run Window Updates again if you do this.

Neither of these *.dll files are on my XP Pro machine. Therefore, they
are *probably* not related to the operating system but expected by some
add-on program you installed. You mentioned Media Player ... I have
Microsoft Media Player also.

I'm not sure how to debug, but one of your running programs (or
services) is clearly asking for these files to be loaded and OS reports
(as it's supposed to) it can't find them. But I don't think it's an OS
problem.

Maybe search google for these dll file names to get a hint.
