Missing CD-Rom drive?

It seems that my computer thinks that the CD-Rom drive just ceased to exist.
I can't find it under My Computer, Control Panel, anywhere! The thing is,
just yesterday I was playing a CD from it, so I know that I could access the
drive yesterday. However, while trying to install a program, I discovered
that I can't access the drive.

Also, when I tried to just reinstall XP, it won't let me do that, either.

Has this happened to anyone before, and if so, what can be done?
