Missing bios or .........

Birthe

My computer keept freezing and then when started up again
began on the bios page telling me that the CPU was wrong.
A friend of mine tried to download fresh bios from the
internet, but while installing it the computer froze
again and he had to shut it down manually. Now there is
no boot at all. I have tried to remove the small batterie
from the motherboard for half an hour, but it did not
help. The motherboard is an ASUS P2B-F. 550 mh pentium
III.

Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? Is it
possible to change the part where the Bios is stored

Thanks
Birthe

Oh dear, its always a risk upgrading the bios at any time, but its never a
good idea to attempt an upgrade on an unstable system. It sounds like your
bios is now corrupt, and I'm sorry to say this is not one you can fix. You
will need to go to the manufacturer for a replacement bios chip, or if the
bios chip is soldered to the motherboard, you'll have to send the
motherboard back to the manufacturer. Alternatively if you search the web
there are specialist companies which will do the job. Either way its a
costly operation.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a replacement slot 1 motherboard on an
auction website.
