Misdownload of Messages - Outlook 2007

L

LadySoulflower

The other night, I installed the Office 2007 trial & I followed the Gmail
instructions for IMAP setup directly from the website. (I was
previously using Thunderbird & Open Office 2.4)

It took a while to download all the messages (of course), but I
noticed that nothing was popping up in the inbox. I figured it was
just being slow b/c of the volume, but when it finished, there still
weren't any messages in the inbox.

Lo & behold, Outlook only downloaded 27 messages and they ALL are showing up
in the task pane/To Do bar as flagged items. What gives??? How do I get my
messages into the right place?

Also, I'm not sure if this is part of the issue, but when I tried to install
the Office 2007 trial, but received an error at "Disk 2". It would not
install any of the Accounting software because of some sort of issue with a
..txt file & the SQL.

Do you have Google set to download all messages or only the new ones? if
they are going to the to-do, they are flagged, usually by rules.

With IMAP, all messages are involved; none are fully downloaded (which is why
one has to be online). There is no setting to change that. There are no
rules in my Outlook - I didn't even get that far.

Thanks!

Rules won't work on IMAP.

Hit Ctrl+6 - do you see the folders for your imap acct? Are the messages in
the folders used by the labels?

Rules won't work on IMAP.

They do for me and the Office web site says they should, provided the
account in the send/receive group is configured to download the entire
message.

So to explain IMAP (per Google):
***
What's the difference between IMAP and POP?

Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and
your email client(s). This means when you log in to Gmail using a web
browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting
mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail
(ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign
in).

IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple
devices. If you check your email at work, on your mobile phone, and again at
home, IMAP ensures that new mail is accessible from any device at any given
time.

Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Whereas POP is prone
to losing messages or downloading the same messages multiple times, IMAP
avoids this through two-way syncing capabilities between your mail clients
and your web Gmail.

If you're trying to decide between using POP and using IMAP with Gmail, we
recommend IMAP.
***
So yeah, if my messages were being processed correctly by Outlook, folders &
all that would work just fine. I haven't even set up any rules, so that's
not an issue.

The OP said she was not downloading the full messages... so rules won't
work.

I've finally gotten back to my Outlook. Turns out my account was hiding, but
everything's there. I think the stuff in my To Do bar is all the messages I
have starred in Gmail. Ugh!
