Mirar uninstaller site

Sorry if this is not the right place to post this...
I am trying to uninstall an item in my add/remove programs called Related
Page and when you click the add/remove button you get moved to their website
that says you have to download their uninstaller. How can I tell if this is
safe to do? If it is not, is there any way to get rid of it?

Hi chica;

Steps to take if you have spyware that is not removed by Microsoft Windows
AntiSpyware (betª)
1) Open up AntiSpywªre
2) Click Tools at the tºp
3) Click "Submit a Suspected Spyware Repºrt"
4) Fill out the form with as much detail so they can anªlyze quickly.

Have you tried these operations running in safe mºde?

1) Update both Microsoft Antispyware and your antivirus applicªtion.

2B)Shut down the computer and turn off the power. Wait for at least 30
seconds, and then restart the computer in Safe mode or VGA mºde.

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp,
c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and
Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will
change depending on your name) -
sometimes programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for mysterious *.exe
files or *.dll files in those fºlders.

3) Do full deep scans with Microsoft Antispyware. Repeat scanning until a
complete scan comes through clean.
Ditto with the ªntivirus.

This isn't guaranteed, but it works for a great many items that at first
appear not to be cleaned in normal mºde.

Thank you so much for your help. I have printed your instructions and
"hopefully" I can find the time to go through the safe mode process.

I actually have part of my question that did not get answered. I read some
Microsoft documentation that said that some of the spyware companies will
have an uninstall program that if you run it, it basically assures that your
computer will be infected again. Then, why- and can Microsoft do something
about this???

My question - WHY and can this be fixed? When I go to Add/Remove
programs, and find the offending file and click uninstall, there is no
warning from Microsoft that THIS SHOULD NOT BE DONE. Microsoft is not
stopping the re-direct to the Mirar website which gives you the download the
uninstaller page. It does say to check the signatures somewhere to make sure
that the downloader is legitamate but .... Maybe I should be asking that
question too: How can I tell if a download is safe? I'll add this to the
spyware report I will be sending :)

Thanks much for your time.

Error report is not working. So I guess we will have to wait for beta 2
tesing to be able to send reports :) Thanks again!

Hi chica;
I understand your hesitation. Here's what I do when downloading from a site
that I don't have full trust in. First Google the site & product to see if
there have been any problems reported. Then rather than a run in place, I
would download to a temp folder like C:\temp (save file as) making sure that
the signature on the download is legitimate and verified if you're given
that option for the download. Once it's on your hard disk, I scan it with
my Anti-Virus, and I don't see why you couldn't also scan the folder it's in
with MSAS if your particularly concerned > scan options > full system scan >
scan drive/folders > selecting the folder that you saved the download in for
a quick scan. Although I'm not certain that, in an uninstalled state, it
would be worthwhile... Comments seasoned Anti-spy folks?

Now you should be ready for the install by double clicking the scanned &
downloaded file.

Hi Dave and Chica

This is my trick about download and install.

I never follow any banners, "click here"-"for free" etc
Never follow any Google ads.

I am only using Download.com, Majorgeeks, Betanews etc with
users and editors opinion about a software.

I can also use some of these communitys/forums which also
writes about software:
http://asap.maddoktor2.com/

And I also thrust IDG groups websites with a lot of editor/user
comments.

Never any problems. So editors and other users views from thrusted
sites is may best advice.

A google or MSN search is risky today !!

And be careful with these:

Thanks plun...
Following along with plun's advice, I had a hind-thought for chica: Always
read the End User License Agreement. Boring, I know... so I downloaded this
to help see those buried warnings about Ads & Tracking activity. Pretty
cool program IMHO, and yes, I did follow my own advice about scanning the
download ;) Try to cut and paste the developers own EULA when it appears...
interesting.

Hi Dave

Just my little thoughts about installing software and risks.

But I believe it´s really important to find thrusted
communitys or websites for every program we installs.
To read and maybe also ask other users about opinions.

I forget to mention Aumha.org as a good place for software
recommendations and also MS discussions.

http://aumha.net/ great forum and also discussions about software.
I am not a member but I can stop there just to read about different
issues.

Never follow a "Click here" link to someone unknown with no
references.

I have my favorite forums and always checks them first.

Sorry to hear that. I can attest that it does work, on many machines.
However, where it does not, I don't have a workaround.
