Good morning all,

Currnelty I have an Exchange 2003 Server running under Windows 2000 Advanced
Server, on failing hardware.

What I'd like to do is move this whole thing to new hardware and in the
process, upgrade the operating system to Windows 2000 Enterprise Edition.

What is the simplist way to do this??? A HOWTO, Whitepaper, anything,
anyone???

Thanks,

-brian

- Setup new Exchange server in the same Exchange Organization
- Move mailboxes, replicate public folders
- If the old server is responsible for inbound internet mail, make the
necessary changes on the firewall (allow inbound SMTP to new server) and
external DNS (create A record for new server, create MX record that points
to the A record with lower Preference)
- Follow KBA 822931
- Shut down old server for a couple of days, if all looks good uninstall
Exchange

Also consider running the server as a virtual server using MS Virtual Server
or VMWare Virtual Server. Then in future if you need to move it to new
hardware you can simply move the virtual server file to a hardware and the
virtual server is none the wiser :)

Can I suggest possibly upgrading the Operating System to Windows 2003
Server?

It doesn't sound like you're clustering, and unless you have a huge amount
of ram (not that Exchange can use more than 4GB anyhow) or more than 4 cpu's
there's no reason why you can't just move to Windows 2003 Server Standard.
