Migrating off exchange

Part of our company has been sold off. I have the job of migrating them off
exchange and off the domain, but the email addresses remain the same, so I
will have to POP3 from the Exchange server.

For my first attempt, while in Outlook, in Exchange, I exported all folders
to a PST file. It wouldn't let me remove the Exchange email account until I
had a new data file added, which I did. I then removed the Exchange email
accouint, rebooted and created a POP3 account. Exchange obviously knew
something, because it used the data file created as the new data file. In
Outlook, all the Inbox was read in again. I deleted them all,, then imported
everything from the export file.
Everything works well except there is no address book. The contacts folder
does not allow it self to be added as an Outlook address book. However
Outlook still seems tied to exchange as entering the name of any employee of
the company generates an email address, but the email won't send. If I
manually type the address it works OK. Any external email address sends OK.

How do I remove any tie to Exchange, so that I can set the user's contacts
as an address book?

Sounds like the mail profile does not contain the Outlook Address Book service yet.

I would recommend that you delete the .nk2 file that holds the autocomplete entries, since they will be Exchange addresses that no longer work.
