Copy ALL the mail files from OE (including the one called Folders.dbx) and
paste them into a folder you have created on your new machine, to which you
have read/write permissions. A folder within your Documents folder would
seem to be the best place.
Then in Windows Mail, do File-Import-Messages, highlight Microsoft Outlook
Express, and click next.
Make sure that "Import from an OE6 Store directory is checked, (that's why
you need to copy the folders.dbx file, because that tells WM the folder is
an OE message store) and click on OK. Browse to the folder you created.

Hey Gordon thanks for the info as I have also had some trouble in trying to
get my Outlook Express folder to my master drive. Here is what i would like
to do.. I have Vista as master drive and XP as slave drive. I would like to
import my Outlook Express (address book and all mail) to my Vista Windows
Mail (as Moreton asked initially) and have read through your suggestion for
doing so, but can you please assist me with where would I go about finding
all the mail files from OE on my slave XP drive? I am not sure where they
are or how to access them. Any help would be great thanks

The default location is this:
C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Name}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{Long number here}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

I just installed Live Mail and connected to my non hotmail emails (netzero &
windstar) successfully. However, as noted in these posts the folders did not
transfer. But now Outlook express is gone with the folders and the default
file location you suggested is not under my user name. I am using XP not
Vista. There were some really important messages in those folders and I need
to recover them, any suggestions?

That location , C:\Documents and Settings\{Your User Name}\Local

is from XP not Vista. You might need to enable hidden files in Windows
Explorer to see it...

If you are using Windows Live Mail on XP, you are in the wrong forum
(newsgroup, actually). The correct newsgroup is:
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Son of a gun! They were hidden as you suggested and are now in Live Mail.
Many thanks

Ooops
Spoke too soon. The files were there under storage folder-imported folder,
and I read some of the messages.. I then went to this exploref site to give
you my reply. When I went back the files were gone. I re-imported the files
and got a successful result message, but when I looked for them they were not
there. Very confusing. Help
