Migrate from Workgroup to Domain Help

B

Bogdan

Hi,
My business network is currently configured as a Workgroup
and working fine. We will be expanding soon and we would
like the added security that a Domain would bring. But my
question is this...

When I switch a workstation computer from Workgroup mode
to Domain mode it's current user settings will not be used
anymore. It seems as if though Windows creates a new user
specifically for the Domain. The desktop is defaulted to
its original settings and looks like windows was just
reinstalled. The programs are missing in my start menu and
I only see the default icons. So is there a way to convert
a computer from a workgroup to a domain and be able to
keep USER Bob's setting 100% intact? Or do I HAVE to
reinstall the applications and modify all the settings to
my liking?

Thanks in advance,
Bogdan

you may need to copy "Bob's" profile to the new account -
this will transfer his "my documents", desktop etc

Click start/help and support /then type in a search
for "copy user profiles" for a step by step guide
