Migraing WINS from W2K Server to W2k Server

G

Gilles Gandini

Hello,

We are migrating an W2k Server to a new machine. On this server there are
several services, including WINS.
I found how to migrate the DNS and DHCP server, but I didn't found how to
migrate the WINS service.

Can I use the same method as under Winows NT 4.0? Or is there another
method?

Thanks for your help,
Gilles

Hi,

The database WINS is similar to DNS, you can change of
Server and you only need configure the Clients again,
maybe manually o Dinamic. If you use DHCP you can
configure that's parameters there...

Remember WINS, is just a Database simple.... Imaginate
that your server WINS Failed and can't recover the
Database. it's the same.

I hope be usefull

You can use the NT 4.0 Article, it will work fine. But worse comes to worse,
just start with a fresh database and reboot everything or use the following
command.

nbtstat -RR
