midi control

I would like to use Powerpoint (or something similar) to provide the visuals
for a multimedia presentation. Aside from sound and graphics, there are
midi devices involved. The midi commands have to be transmitted at specific
times to control, for example, light effects.
This may be beyond Powerpoint, but it'd be nice if it could work. Either
powerpoint has to transmit the sporadic midi commands at exactly the proper
times, or it has to be able to play in sync with an external midi
controller.

Is this possible with Powerpoint or, if not, is there an alternative?

Many thanks!

IMHO one of PowerPoint's greatest weakness is timing and synchronization. I
think you would have greater success creating a video that does what you want.

I would expect that it is possible with PowerPoint with a bit of programming
(which is where my knowledge is lacking) assuming you mean you want to
control MIDI devices in sync with, say, the advance of a slide.
Hopefully someone with a bit of programming know how will fill in the gaps.
The only other product that springs to mind that may be of use is Scala
Infochannel Designer.

Although Powerpoint is obviously very useful as is, I think the adding of
some kind of time clock sync to it would enhance it immensely.

....from my lips to Gates' ears!

Scala would probably do it, but is several levels up and over from what I
need. It seems like a fascinating product, though. How do you know about
it? It seems like a very specialized thing.
