Good Morning
I'm hoping you can help me with a problem with a friend's
computer. Last night, I was trying to explain to her over
the phone how to delete temporary internet files. She has
a couple of children that constantly get on the internet
and search and was telling me that her computer was
running very slow. I asked her if she had ever cleaned up
the files (meaning the temporary files) and she said no.
Anyway to make a long story short I was telling her how to
search for the temporary internet files using the search
files & folders option. She said if was bringing up
everything that had temporary/internet in the name so I
told her to stop the search and we would look for it in
the c drive folder. I don't know what she did but I think
she did not close the search properly. I tried to get her
to open the c drive folder and her computer crashed. Now
when she reboots she supposely gets an error message
saying something about microsoft being sorry for windows
not opening properly and asking her if she wants to go
into safe mode, safe mode networking and something else.
After this screen appears it goes away even if you haven't
clicked anything and her windows home edition xp page
comes up and then nothing. The screen just stays up and
nothing happens. I asked her to reboot again and to click
safe mode this time before the error page goes away and
she did but then this windows xp home page screen appears
and stays. The original problem I see is that her computer
did not get to shut down properly. Can you give me some
step by step instructions what I might be able to try when
I go to her home tonight to try to get the desktop back.
Oh by the way she has lost her mouse through this.
Thank you,
