Just Purchased a Laptop Computer HP Pavilion and was told
by sells team at Fry's Electronics that Media Center
Edition was like Windows XP Professional For Networking
capabilities that are not available in Home Edition of XP
the only way to get the Media Center edition is through
third party byer such as HP, Gateway, Dell. I need to know
if this information is accurate or not.

Greetings --

You appear to have been given accurate information. (It's hard to
tell from your badly fractured English.)

WinXP Media Center Edition is a _superset_ (iow, it does
_everything_ WinXP Pro can do,
plus contains additional multi-media features) of WinXP Pro. WinXP
MCE is available _only_ as on OEM product on specifically designed
systems.

As if Windows XP Pro wasn't bloated to the gills as it was, MS in their
infinite insanity, created the most bloated Desktop OS ever with Windows
Media Center. Only available from very greedy corporations in collusion
with the biggest greediest convicted predatory monopoly ever!

I wonder why Media Center is even sold on Laptops, as by the time you
hook up video and audio components to be able to use all of Media
Center's features, you might as well have bought a regular desktop.

Media Center version is only available on approved new machines made to
the Media Center specs, and supplied by an approved maker (meaning at
present one of the big ones). It provides things like remote control of
the TV reception side. You can't buy it separately, nor as a laptop

I'm not certain about whether it includes the Pro extras (they would not
seem to be needed in what is aimed at a Home market), but they probably
are, as in the Tablet PC edition.

It seems that HP is offering Windows Media Center 2004 as an option with
their high-end laptops.
