Installed new purchase of Windows 2000 Pro but cannot see
that either Word or Excel have been installed. I have
icons on my desktop but when I try to open them nothing
happens. Can someone please xplain what I should do? I
am a novice user!
Thanks.

Word and excel are part of office system not part of the operating system.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.
