Microsoft Runtime Error - VISUAL C + + Abnormal Termination

K

KelleGirl

When I select Start, then My Documents for example, I
receive the following window:
Microsoft VISUAL C + + Runtime Library
The message within the window is:
Runtime Error!
Program C:\Windows\Winlogin.exe
Abnormal Program Termination

I have no clue as to why this is happening today...I used
the computer on Saturday and Sunday...was able to open my
documents or the control panel...

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -

You have a virus. Most likely Randex, known to replace the real *winlogON"
file with the bogus "winlogIN."

This link has directions for its removal:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.randex.e.html

This link has a script file that will automatically do the cleanup of the
registry for you. This is to be used AFTER your antivirus program has
cleaned up the virus:

Thanks for the links - I do have another question in
regard to the 1st link ...
3. Ending the worm process {in Task Manager}
e. scroll through the list and look for either
nstask32.exe or winlogin.exe
The file i have listed is winlogon.exe
I'm not seeing winlogin.exe or nstask32.exe
Do you know if it is safe to End Process of
winlogon.exe?

Your first message noted the file name as winlogin. If you did not make a
typo, review the info at the Symantec site.

Winlogon is completely different file and it is a valid Windows file. You
do not need to end process on it.
