Microsoft owns shares of Apple?

Hello guys
I am student.
Lastly there was this 'senior' student who came to make a demo on Win2k
Server. During his speech this Mr Know-it-all mentioned that Microsoft
owns a large fraction of Apple.

Is that true?
Please pardon my ignorance

If I recall Microsoft bailed Apple out some years ago but that was because
they sell a lot of Office software to Apple users. I suppose they could have
got stock then

My understanding is that MS owns no stock (or at least not
a significant amount) in Apple. What they apparently do have
is a seat on the board, as part and parcel of the financial
assistance the gave Apple a few years ago.

Microsoft has had an on-again/off-again dealing in Apple stock. I
don't know their current position, but at various times they have
owned some percentage of the company. I don't think it was ever a
"large fraction" though, certainly never a controlling fraction.

It's probably important to remember here that Microsoft is one of the
world's largest producers of Mac software.
