Microsoft .NET Framework

I'm running a Toshiba Satellite S3000-514 laptop with XP HE SP2. It's a P3,
with 512RAM.

Could anyone tell me what Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 actually does,
please?

I installed this as part of MLB.com's new Mosaic feature, which allows you
to watch baseball on six separate screens; unfortunately it proved too much
for my dear old laptop and I had to uninstall the program.

Also... I use Adaware SE Plus, which warns me of any changes to the
registry. Since I uninstalled the MS program, each time I boot the laptop,
Adaware informs me that MS .NET Framework (and the Mosaic set up program),
are about to change a registry value - if I accept this, the computer boots
okay, if I disallow the change, it shows the desktop wallpaper without icons
and doesn't go any further.

Why won't this completely uninstall? I followed the procedures within the
add/remove programs console.

Thank you.

The .Net Framework (also known as .Net or dot Net) is a component of the
Windows XP operating system. It's a relatively recent addition to Windows
that started to appear about two years ago. You should not uninstall it or
interfere with it.

More and more software applications rely on .Net, without which they won't
run properly or at all. If you have already uninstalled or otherwised messed
around with .Net you should re-install it. And as general advice: Don't mess
around in the registry. There is no need to ever edit the registry unless
you have a specifically identified problem which can best be solved by
editing the registry, inwhich case you would be following specific
instructions that have been provided to you.

The .net framework is a runtime file needed to run programs written with
..net. It's roughly analogous to the old vbrunXXX.dll files needed to run
programs written in Visual Basic.

Because .net is relatively new, there aren't yet a lot of programs that use
it. A few months ago I had none. Today I have several. Even if you don't run
any of these programs now, it's likely that you will soon, so my
recommendation is that you might as well keep this, so it will be there when
you need it.

By the way, .net framework 1.1 is needed for programs written with .net 1.1,
and net framework 2.0 is needed for programs written with .net 2.0; 2.0 does
not replace 1.1, so you probably should have both.

All true, but ... the OP asked:
"

"
Meaning, you did not anwer the OP's question. Why not? Poor
response, IMO, and they're becoming more typical all over this
group!

Notice that Ken B did take the time. Why couldn't you?
