We want ASCII art back!

Composing a Usenet message (ie. text only) how can one
use a fixed width font (ie. a monospaced font like Courier)
in only a segment (for example in the signature) of the message?

For example for ASCII art and ASCII diagrams etc. by using fixed width font.

Is it possible to switch to a monospaced font in a otherwise proportional
font message, so that both get used in the message? And automatically
interpreted correctly at the other readers' machines, at least those using OE ?

No, HTML is no option in Usenet newsgroups; it has to be text only.

Ie. what is needed is a feature to specify (by the author of the message!)
which font the reader software automatically should use when it displays the message.
