Microsoft has encountered a problem & needs to close

When attempting to run a query, I keep getting the error message Microsoft
Access has encountered a problem & needs to close. Sorry for the
inconvenience". I am using access 2003.

You most likely have a corrupt element in that database.
Try running the "Compact & Repair" utility (under Tools-Database Utilities).

If that doesn't fix it, you'll need to rebuild that query.
Try copying it to a new query, or last resort, delete it and re-create it.
