Microsoft fax

I activated my fax in Windows XP Home. My modem is an HSP56 MicroModem.
I sent a fax to my sister. Her machine activates, but no fax comes through.
My promp says fax failed. What do I need to do?

Based on the number of posts I've seen complaining about problems with WinXP fax
and WinFax Pro, at least two major software manufacturers -- Microsoft and
Symantec -- appear to have decided that fax is an obsolete method of
communicating information and they won't really support it (although they each
fool you into thinking they will support it; at least you don't have to pay $100
for the WinXP fax component). They seem to assume that every one will use
email, and if someone needs to send a document that they haven't created
themselves, they will scan it in and then use email.

For people who absolutely, positively must have fax capability, the best
solution appears to be to buy a separate fax machine. I don't have personal
experience with any of the multi-function (print/scan/copy/fax) machines, but I
have no reason to doubt that they work OK. Otherwise, where the recipient only
has a fax machine and no access to email, use an on-line pay-to-fax service,
like eFax.
